Biography of Daniel Jacobs

Daniel Jacobs (born Daniel Jacobs; born February 3, 1987, New York, USA) is an American professional boxer who plays in the middle weight class. US champion among amateurs middleweight champion (2006).

Regular WBA world middleweight champion (2014-2017). The champion of North America according to NABF (2010). Winner of the “Return of the Year” award according to The Ring magazine (2012).
Jacobs was born and raised in Brooklyn – a district of New York. Daniel brought up his mother – Yvette, grandmother – Cordelia and his aunt. Jacobs finished school Erasmus.

Amateur career
Jacobs scored 137 victories and lost 7 times in the amateur ring. In 2003, Jacobs won the Olympic Games among juniors. In 2004 he became the champion of the United States in amateur boxing in the category “Under 19 years old”. In 2005, he won the Golden Gloves of the United States. The 2006 United States Amateur Boxing Middleweight Champion. During his amateur career, Jacobs four times became the winner of the tournament “Golden Gloves” in New York.

Professional career
Jacobs debut in professional boxing took place on the undercard of the battle of Floyd Mayweather against Ricky Hatton, which took place on December 8, 2007 at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino. Daniel defeated Mexican boxer José Jesus Hurtado, 29 seconds after the start of the bout, the referee stopped the bout.

In the next fight, Jacobs knocked out Hector Lopez in the 1st round.

On February 16, 2008, Jacobs boxed with Alexander Volkov, the fight ended with Daniel’s early victory in the second round.

Jacobs won six of his next fights before coming out against Emmanuel González on September 27, 2008. In the 2nd round, Daniel knocked down Gonzalez after an accurate combination of three hits. In the 6th round, Gonzalez again visited the ring flooring, but was able to recover and continue the fight. Thus, for the first time in his career, Jacobs had to fight all the time allotted for battle. The fight ended with Daniel’s victory by unanimous decision.

On April 27, 2009, Jacobs agreed to replace James Kirkland, who was sentenced to two years in prison, in a battle against Mike Walker. On May 2, 2009, Jacobs won by unanimous decision.

Fight Ishe Smith
On August 22, 2009, Daniel defeated Ishe Smith and became the WBO NABO champion.

Fight with Juan Astorg
7 months later, Jacobs defeated Juan Astorga and added the NABF champion title to his list of trophies.

Championship fight with Dmitry Pirog
On July 31, 2010, Jacobs fought against Russian boxer Dmitry Pirog for the vacant WBO world title. Jacobs was considered the favorite fight among bookmakers, both fighters did not know defeats before this fight. At the beginning of the 2nd round, Pie shook his opponent, Jacobs crouched by the ropes, but at the last moment was able to avoid a knockdown. In the 5th round, the Russian knocked out Daniel Jacobs. According to the estimates of the independent referee, the fight was equal, Dmitry Pirog won in the second and fourth round, while Jacobs was given the advantage in the first and third. However, the official records of all three judges in the first 4 rounds unanimously led Jacobs. Dmitry Pirog was given preference only in the second round.

After a hard defeat by Pirog, Jacobs had two fights against Jesse Orta and Robert Cleaver, both fights ended in an early victory for Daniel.

Suddenly, one of the most promising American boxers has disappeared from the field of view of boxing fans. At the end of 2011, the New York Daily News published an article that said that in May of this year, Jacobs was diagnosed with cancer. Daniel struggled with a severe illness for 7 months and defeated her. Doctors advised him to end his career, but in December 2011, Jacobs resumed training.
